November 29th - La Paz

Feel a little better today. Took the dinghy downtown to the marina where the JB is being worked on. Found a manufacturing defect in the starboard hull where there has been water intrusion going on. Having a marine survey done on her and David emailed the factory to advise them and find out what to do. Bummer.

Stopped by Family Time and consulted with Greg. He knows a lot a out this stuff as he's modified his boat a couple of times. He may go to the meeting with the surveyor with David.

Went to the Beach Club bar to see if we could watch the Oregon state/Oregon civil war but Mexican Fox Sports networks did not have it or any college games. Lisa, my beautiful daughter texted me play by play action over Viber. Close game but in the end we lost.

My beautiful daughter Lisa at Big Al's reporting the game to us. Here she was "drinking away the pain", the Ducks had just scored a TD.

Me, joining Lisa in a shot of Chardonnay after a shot of tequila!

November 28th - La Paz Thanksgiving

Had a bad night last night. Ate a rare hamburger for lunch the day before and I think that's what made me sick, ugh. I ache all over, feel weak and 3 rounds of Imodium aren't helping. We took the 10:00 shuttle to check on the JB and to make sure they got her plugged into power. Good thing we went because they didn't do it. Everything was fine though, the inverter handled it. Wound up changing the type of paint we are putting on the bottom, they were now telling us it would be an additional $10k to do extra prep work and primer to apply the paint that they had quoted originally. I just hope they can keep to the schedule and get her back in the water by Monday.

We had an excellent Thanksgiving dinner aboard the Family Time. Andy, Julie and Chloe from Infinity also came. What a great group of people! Jenny is a gourmet cook and prepared one of the best Thanksgiving dinners I've ever had.

This is my Granddog Jackson at our home in Tigard. We miss you and all of our kids and family back home!

Wish the flas on my camera was better, that's Greg up front.

From left to right: Graham, David, Zach, Grayson, Jenny, Andy, Julie, Chloe and Greg.

One with me.

Andy, Julie and Chloe off the Infinity, from Vancouver Canada.

David and Grayson. Grayson is amazing, he's 13 and in the 8th grade. We may try to kidnap him next week for our trip across the Sea of Cortez to mainland Mexico. Yes, we are going to move on and do more exploring.

November 27th - La Paz

Got up early today and posted the blog for yesterday with the screaming fast hotel internet. Breakfast buffet at 7:00, then down to the JB. Taking her in to have the bottom painted this morning. Got to the boat lift at 8:30. Had 6 Mexican guys waiting to help us get tied up. They are working on the lift (maybe not such a good sign?).

Waiting for the travel lift to come forward into place

Here it comes

I guess we are not even getting off, they are pulling us forward with ropes into the lift

Just about there

Going up

Hello down there

David inspecting the bottom

There she is. Last time we saw her out of the water was at the factory.

Stopped by the dock at Marina de la Paz and had a couple cups of coffee. Sat with Deborah and Bob from Dos Rojos, (they both have red hair). They are headed home to San Diego tomorrow. Caught a cab back to hotel. Split a burger and fries at the beach club. Skype'd with the kids, Ben, Melissa, Lisa and Anthony, they were having dinner together at Ben's new apartment. Had dinner at the Italian restaurant here, we split a pizza. David did not feel good yesterday afternoon, revenge setting in. I came down with it in the middle of the night. Oh no. :-(

November 26th - La Paz

Really windy today. Carpet cleaners didn't show up at 10:00. Left on the dinghy at 10:30 and went to the dinghy dock. Went to the mini mart to put money in David's Mexican phone. Then visited a couple boats, the Workknot and the Sea Fox. Got back to JB at 1:00 and the carpet cleaners were waiting. Just relaxed while the carpets were being cleaned. Checked into the hotel around 5. Upgraded to a room with a bay view. Nice big king size bed! A TV too! :-) Went back to the boat for dinner. Grayson completely detailed our dinghy, looks new! What a guy!

November 25th - La Paz

Today is sunnier but now the winds have picked up. Blowing a good 20-25 steady. Not supposed to be as warm, maybe 75. Taking the shuttle into town today. I have a nail appointment and David has some questions at Palmar boatyard where JB gets her bottom painted. Went out to lunch after we met back up. David had a big clam cocktail and I had shrimp soup.

Went to Full Heaven salon and Carla did a good job for $200 pesos. I went 3-1/2 weeks since my last fill. She didn't speak any English at all, so my very limited Spanish cam in handy.

Finally got the pictures from Family Time from when we traveled from Mag Bay to Cabo with them. This is the first of three shots I am posting of a whale jumping right beside their boar. You can see the Janabanana in the background on the left side of the picture. Cindy and I were sitting up on the bridge when the 2 whales started this and of course, we were screaming!

Amazing

Great photos Grayson!

JB in cabo

Went out to dinner at Steinbecks here at the resort with Greg and Jenny from Family Time. Had a fabulous steak dinner. Great day.

November 24th - La Paz

Very cloudy this morning. Even had a short downpour of rain! We moved the JB out to the end of the dock next to Family Time so we can get the dinghy down. As we were pulling up to the dock, we noticed the rear thrusters were not working. Oh no! Not again! Our front thrusters went out when we were in Canada a couple of years ago. David troubleshot it and found the relay went bad, same problem as the front one had. He bypassed it for now, so it works. Going to have to find one and a spare too.

Cool picture, sky and water look the same

After lunch, we took the dinghy downtown past all the marinas. We wanted to see where we would take the JB for the bottom paint.

Don Jose's lift. This is where JB will get new bottom paint.

Sailboats are anchored all over, free is a good price!

Here is Scout. It was moored right by us in Cabrillo Isle marina. We saw her anchored at Cabo too. Jose, you recognize her? :-)

Meduse here at Costa Baja Marina.

Another fantastic sunset.

November 23rd - La Paz

Beautiful and sunny this morning. Had breakfast and listened to the Net. Went on a walk around the resort and talked to the Marina manager Gabriel. We wanted to see if we can get a larger slip where we can get our dinghy down but they are all full. Too bad.

Poncho, we met him in San Jose del Cabo, provides services to boaters, came over around noon. He had a quote for us to have the bottom painted on the JB. David and Poncho took a cab down to the boatyard to check it out and ask questions. He made an appointment to take the boat there to have it lifted and the work to start on Wednesday morning. They are supposed to finish on Monday. We'll have to move out of the boat and into the hotel.

I went to the hotel spa Espiritu to have a pedicure. I wanted my nails done too, it has been three weeks last Thursday, but they don't do acrylic nails. They did find me a place by the Malecon (esplanade by the waterfront), and made an appointment for me Monday at 11:00.

Family Time arrived while I was at the spa, they are staying at the end of our dock for a week. We stayed at the boat tonight and I made Chicken Parmesan for dinner. Delicious!

Paul Allen's sister's yacht the Meduse was just outside the moorage for helicopter drills during our walk. She came in and is moored here with us.

Another beautiful sunset.

November 22 - La Paz

Listened to "The Net" this morning at 8:00. A daily chat on marine radio channel 22 of local boaters with announcements, questions and all kinds of information. Interesting. After lunch, caught the shuttle from the hotel to the La Paz Cathedral downtown.

Entrance to the Cathedral

The mission was founded in 1535 and the church started being built in 1861

Beautiful stained glass.

After the church, we went to the bank to exchange some dollars for pesos. Rip off at the bank. 12.45 pesos to the dollar. Better at the Megastore! Then we walked down to the waterfront and stopped in a restaurant for a cold cerveza. This was our view while sipping a beer.

Walking along the boardwalk downtown, we found a man in the boat :-)

Checked out Marina Cortez, closer to downtown than costa Baja. Definitely not as nice as costa Baja. Took a cab back. Went out to dinner here at Azul Marino again. We had the special "Thai Shrimp with red curry sauce over rice and vegetables". It was great!
