May 3rd - Puerto Escondido

We are having a rental car delivered to us this morning. We are going into Loreto to explore, have lunch and get some fresh produce for our trip down to Cabo.

The Loreto beach from the Malecon.

Going for a stroll to check it out.

The small harbor of Loreto for local Panga's and you can anchor outside and bring your dinghy in to go ashore.

Cool whale statue.

View of the harbor from the other side.

Decided to have lunch here at El Rey Del Taco. It was rated the #3 restaurant in Loreto on trip advisor. Sure glad we took the time to find it because it was excellent! Lots of locals were eating there. We each ordered a fish taco and a beef taco. They were huge! We sat at the bar and watched El Rey (the king) cook up the beef. They had all the condiments to add anything you wanted to it. We both had coke lights and our bill came to $140 pesos, about $11 dollars.

Statue head in the town square. Not sure who it is?

Loreto's Delegacion building, also in the town's main plaza. Loreto used to be the state capital until 1829, when a destructive storm forced the government to move it to La Paz.

Central plaza

Walking to the Loreto church under a shady paseo of topiary trees.

Here we are at the Mision Nuestra SeƱora de Loreto

Founded in 1697 be Jesuit padre Juan Maria Salvatierra.

The bell tower

Some history of the Mision

Courtyard outside the church

And as David pointed out to me, "There's how they ring the bell!"

This concludes our tour of Loreto. Now on to grocery stores to stock up. We went to Ley's and also to El Pescador Super Mercados. Not anywhere close to being a Mega or Walmart! We also went to Ferre-Mar, a fishing/boating supply store.

Happy, happy birthday to my good friend Cindy Bouchard! I hope you are having a fabulous day! Miss you so much. Xoxo.
